A Day in the Life of Our Community

Updated: Dec 23, 2021

All the work, from assembling ingredients, rolling and folding the paper, is divided into groups. The cooking work is mostly done by the women, and the marketing and selling part is handled by the men. The community makes around 800 - 1,000 'Pootharekulu' in a single day. A box contains about 5 sweets which the community sells for Rs. 30 to the middlemen, who in turn sell the same box for Rs. 60. On top of this, there is no support from the Andhra Pradesh government for the traditional sweets like 'Pootharekulu'.
